UK nation and regional comparisons

The chart shows reported cases each day of covid-19 for the nations of the UK and regions of England.

Over 50% of the UK's reported cases of covid-19 are now at unspecified locations - this is explained as due to "tests carried out by commercial partners" [1].

The second chart shows the same data but as rates per 100,000 population.

Many regional totals seem to be in steady decline, but the large number of cases with unspecified location means we cannot tell what is happening.

How can proper planning be done if case location data is not properly collated?
Other countries can provide complete data on case location - what can't the UK?

The charts were generated by the online chart-drawing facility at https://www.iancampbell.co.uk/covid-19.php. Up-to-date charts can be obtained from there.
